The Northern Colorado Nightmare ran the league ragged as they steamrolled everyone on their way to a Championship Football League Title. Last week, the Nightmare defeated the Colorado Springs Flames 22-7 to punch their ticket to the Championship. Much like the regular season, The Nightmare made a statement title win over the Colorado Sting 47-14. Northern Colorado decimated the league with 449 points forced and 51 points allowed over 10 games.
Northern Colorado secured the lead on their second drive behind the tough running of D’Heaven Domena. Topher booted the heck out of the ball to avoid incoming defenders and it went over the upright. Unfortunate for Topher the referee decided it was just left to put the Nightmare lead at six.
The first quarter was rather close with both Julian Banks and the Sting quarterback making good efforts, but not finishing drives. The second quarter was as one fan described “the Sting’s own nightmare”. While Northern Colorado had a quiet first quarter they were able to drown the Sting in 28 unanswered points in the second quarter.
Mamuzich caught a laser pass from Banks in the end zone to start off the quarter. Six and a half minutes later Banks got the ball to Justice Atkins in an open area to let him show off his skills. His dangerous speed got him down within the five where he used his hot feet to make three defenders miss. Atkins added to his backhand spring / back flip total in celebration. Three and a half minutes to go Quan Southward apexed the ball perfectly for a 35 yard pick-six touchdown. The Nightmare were not done yet as Steph Mamuzich would emulate Atkins and make multiple defenders miss on his way to putting the Nightmare up 34-0 going into halftime.
Following the break, the Sting would put together a worthy drive and their first points of the game finally at three minutes into the third quarter. Just over two minutes later Juju Banks would dump a five yard pass off to Kevin Miller for the score. Another well put together drive full of breakaway plays would help the Sting drive down to the goal line and punch in their second score. The Nightmare would of course answer with another receiving touchdown on a sky high lob from Banks to Miller again.
The fourth quarter was the most competitive the game ever was as neither team scored, but both teams traded off at least two turnovers each. In the end, The Northern Colorado Nightmare were too much for the entire league and found themselves champions of the Championship Football League. The Nightmare are only the second team to win both the CFL and CFC conferences and the only active team.
The Northern Colorado Nightmare’s season is not over yet as they will compete in a Regional Championship against the Utah Islanders. Come out to The Boneyard at District 6 Stadium on August 17th at 6:45pm.
