The Northern Colorado Nightmare (NoCo) have been steam rolling competition in the Championship Football League (CFL) and the Colorado Sting were their latest victim. The Nightmare routed the Sting in their home opener at District 6 Stadium in Greeley 51-10. These two teams were the leaders of the CFL and NoCo showed they are currently heads and shoulders above the rest of the competition.
The first quarter was competitive as scores were traded back and forth. Both sides saw challenges as ball security limited the Sting’s drives and consistency on point after attempts kept the Nightmare from extending the lead. The first fifteen minutes of competition would be the closest the score would ever be.
The Nightmare had the night made after their offense was confident from a few scores and defense was proud of their turnovers. QB Julian Banks was really feeling himself as his favorite throw became a gunslinger heave to the corner of the end zone from midfield throughout the rest of the game. It was refreshing to have a Nightmare QB who can sling the ball and use fancy footwork to make a first down and more.

The Sting came out of the half and quickly let NoCo find familiar ground in their end zone in a mere two minutes and six seconds. It would only take the Sting twenty seconds to finally sting the Nightmare defense. However, that was the last time the Colorado Sting would get on the board. The Nightmare were busy causing nightmares in the Sting backfield all night long and it got worse in the second half. NoCo forced nearly a half dozen turnovers as they were clawing at the ball and snagging it out of the air throughout the game.
The Sting threw an interception near the start of the fourth quarter, but quickly recovered by picking off the Nightmare a minute later and weaving their way down to the NoCo 7. After several attempts the Nightmare were able to stop the Sting on the goaline on fourth down. Despite how much the Sting wanted it the Nightmare had their number all night long.
